Amadu Koita, a former soldier and bodyguard of Sierra Leone’s ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma, and 11 others including Bai Mahmoud Bangura, the National Organizing Secretary of the APC, are facing charges of treason, aiding and abetting, misprision of treason and harboring following November 26th failed attempted coup in Sierra Leone.

SLAJ iVerify has fact-checked a claim making the rounds on social media that Amadu Koita and Bai Mahmoud Bangura and 10 others are facing treason and other charges and found it to be true.

To arrive at this conclusion, the SLAJ iVerify fact-checking desk visited the court where these accused persons were arraigned and witnessed the court sitting firsthand.

However, the Court could not proceed with the matter because one of the accused, Bai Mahmoud Bangura, was absent due to ill health.

In that circumstance, the presiding magistrate, Santigie Bangura, adjourned the matter to January 9, 2024.
