Freetown gets new Acting Mayor
The SLAJ-iVerify Network of Fact-Checking Desks has verified the claim that Freetown has a new acting Mayor.
In the process, the SLAJ iVerify Network contacted Festus Kallay, the Chief Administrator of the Freetown City Council.
Mr. Kallay confirmed that the councilors of the Freetown City Council have nominated and approved Councilor Ahmed Karim Bangura of Ward 443 in Aberdeen as the acting Mayor of the municipality.
He further revealed that Councilor Bangura has assumed his new role with immediate effect.
The Chief Administrator explained that this decision was made due to time-sensitive developmental activities that cannot be put on hold in the absence of a sitting Mayor.
Additionally, SLAJ-iVerify reached out to Frederick V. Kanneh, the Information Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), who also confirmed the nomination.
