Claim

“US $65 Million to support critical sectors in Salone” few local newspapers claim.

Rating Justification

The SLAJ iVerify has fact-checked the claim made by a few newspapers that the World Bank has approved $65 Million to the Government of Sierra Leone to address critical development challenges and found it to be true.

To arrive at this conclusion we carried out the following steps:

SLAJ iVerify examined an official Press Release which was issued on 18th December by the Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone informing the general public that the World Bank Executive Directors had approved the Third Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Development Policy Financing (DPF) and the disbursement of a $65 Million Grant to address critical development challenges, by reforms related to macroeconomic stability, mining sector governance, land management practices, gender equality and accountability of the public sector.

Likewise, a Press Release has also been issued by the World Bank confirming the same on 14th December.
