Rating Justification

SLAJ iVerify Network of Fast Checking Desk has verified the claim that is doing rounds on social media that over 2.5 million children have benefitted from the Government of Sierra Leone Free Quality Education Project to be true.

To arrive at this conclusion, SLAJ iVerify Network of Fact-Checking Desks conducted the following steps:

Firstly, SLAJ iVerify contacted the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education’s Deputy Director of Education Management Information Systems (EMIS), John K. Ansumana.
He provided an aggregated data that indicates that 3,083,845 were benefecaries of the FQE.
The data further shows that more pupils were enrolled in public schools than in private schools.

Secondly, our team of fact-checkers further fact-checked the claim using the data on the said ministry’s official website and confirmed the same.

In addition, we also monitored data on school pupils’ enrollment in Sierra Leone 2012 to 2018 and noted a sharp increment in the enrollment of 2018 when the Government of Sierra Leone introduced the Free Quality Education in Sierra Leone.

Based on the evidence found, SLAJ iVerify concludes that the above claim is true.
