SLAJ iVerify has conducted a fact-check on the claim that a woman sustained an injury during an exchange of gunfire involving an armed civilian known as ‘Big Fish’ and a military officer on Thursday, September 22, 2023, in the Central Business District of Freetown, and has verified the claim to be accurate.
To arrive at this conclusion, SLAJ iVerify contacted Madam Fatmata Jalloh, also known as ‘Mami Suma,’ who confirmed that she suffered injuries to her right shoulder and forehead from gunshots.
She was rushed to Connaught Hospital before being transferred to the Emergency Hospital for an x-ray.
Additionally, a nurse at Connaught Hospital corroborated that Ms. Suma was indeed brought to the facility.
SLAJ iVerify also referred to the press release issued by the Sierra Leone Police, which stated that a female sustained a gunshot injury.
Based on this substantial evidence, SLAJ iVerify has concluded that the claim is true.
