No, the claim that the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education has announced scholarship offers for Sierra Leonean students to study in China, Sweden, Hungary and Germany is False.

SLAJ iVerify has conducted a fact-check on what looks like a public notice from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education claiming that scholarships have been advertised for Sierra Leoneans to study in China, Sweden, Hungary and Germany and found it to be false.

Claim

“The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education has announced scholarship opportunities for Sierra Leone students to study in China, Sweden, Hungary and Germany and forms are sold for NLe850” a public notice on social media claims.

Rating Justification

SLAJ- iVerify has fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false. To arrive at this conclusion, SLAJ iVerify contacted Sahr Sewa, Information Officer, Ministry of Technical and Higher Education who confirmed to us that the Public Notice was fake.

From our analyses, the fake press release contains some unparallel features which indicates that the words, coat of arm, and other features had been superimposed.

The stamp was manipulated, and the signature on same were found be illegitimate, sources within the education ministry confirmed.

Additionally, the contact on the doctored press release does not correspond with anyone else’s at the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, nor does it match the official contacts and emails attached to the said press release.

We also noticed that the Ministry had also flagged the same press release as fake on its Facebook page.
