No, the claim that the Government of Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the governments of the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, is offering fully funded scholarships to suitably qualified international students to pursue higher education is false.

SLAJ iVerify has fact-checked a claim doing rounds on social media that the Government of Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates have collaborated to offer fully funded scholarships to suitably qualified Sierra Leoneans and found it to be false.

Claim

“The government of Sierra Leone in collaboration with the Governments of the United Kingdom (UK) and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Dubai is providing fully funded scholarships to suitable and qualified international students to pursue higher education”. A press release on social media claims.

Rating Justification

SLAJ iVerify has found the above claim to be false. To arrive at this conclusion, we contacted the Information Officer at the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, who told us that the scholarship opportunity was fake.

Our Fact Checking desk also contacted the Director of Communications Office of the First Lady, Mbampia James Bundu, who remarked that the public notice concerning the scholarship agreement with the Governments of Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates must be discountenanced, noting that it was false.

James also sent a copy of the notice that the Office of the First Lady had earlier flagged as fake.
