SLAJ iVerify has fact-checked the claim and found it to be false. The front page was doctored and not from the Global Times newspaper.

“PRES BIO AND WIFE RESUME THE FLYING COMPETITION AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TAXPAYERS” is a claim that appeared in what looks like the Global Times newspaper’s 8th November edition but it wasn’t. The social media picture was doctored. To arrive at this conclusion SLAJ iVerify took the following steps.
SLAJ iVerify compared the social media circulated front page with the hardcopy newspaper of the Global Times newspaper and found the disparity which proves the front page was doctored.
We also contacted a staff of the Global Times newspaper who provided us with an original soft copy (Electronic version) of their 8th November edition. Upon running the comparison, we noticed that the newspaper-provided version was different from the widely shared online version we were investigating.
