Claim

That Former President Ernest Bai Koroma has been placed under house arrest.

Rating Justification

SLAJ iVerify has fact checked the claim that the former President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has been placed under house arrest and found it to be false.

To arrive at this conclusion, SLAJ iVerify contacted the Secretary General of the APC party, who labelled the claim as untrue.

Likewise, Ady Macauley, one of the solicitors who represented the former president at CID and a senior party member of the APC, also disregarded the claim and said he was not aware of any arrest, noting that the former president has been asked to report to CID the following day, 9 December to continue with the process. Ady also forwarded SLAJ iVerify an article from the Office of Ernest Bai Koroma, former President of Sierra Leone (2007–2018), updating the public that the former president is “NOT” under house arrest.

Similarly, a tweet from the former President also says he returned home after the interview and that it will continue the following day.
