A Facebook post by Abdul Jah about the death of Amadu Koita, a retired RSLAF soldier and bodyguard for former President Ernest Bai Koroma, who was charged with treason and other offenses in the November 26th attempted coup, has been making the rounds on social media.

SLAJ iVerify has fact-checked this claim and found it to be false. To arrive at this conclusion, SLAJ iVerify contacted Leslie F. Cole-Showers, the Media and Public Relations Manager at the Sierra Leone Correctional Center, who confirmed that the claim is false and that Koita is not dead.

Additionally, SLAJ iVerify examines records, which show that Koita was in court on Monday, May 20, and the case was adjourned to Wednesday, May 22.

SLAJ iVerify also contacted the lawyer representing Amadu Koita, who stated that the witness scheduled to testify was unavailable, leading to the adjournment of the case to Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Based on these findings, the claim that Amadu Koita is dead is false.
